President Md. Sahabuddin said that a decision has been taken
regarding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Apart from this,
elections will be held in the country as soon as possible. The decision was
taken in a meeting with the President of the three armed forces, leaders of
various political parties and civil society representatives at Bangabhaban on
Monday.
Following the meeting, the President gave a Monday night speech to the people. Sahabuddin was notified of this choice. "As you are aware, today Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina submitted her letter of resignation to the President, which I have accepted," he stated. Today, Monday, at Bangabhaban, leaders of three forces, leaders of different political parties, representatives of civil society, and some coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement discussed the Prime Minister's resignation and the situation created by the movement. The army chief briefed me at the outset on the general state of affairs and his talks with the political parties. During this moment, political figures also made their statements.
The resolution expressing condolences was approved during
the meeting in remembrance of the students who lost their lives in the
anti-discrimination movement, according to the president. Aside from this, it
was determined to quickly construct a provisional government. General elections
will be held as soon as feasible by the interim administration that was
established after consulting with all relevant parties and stakeholders. All of
the detainees, including those held in connection with numerous false accusations
and the anti-discrimination student movement, will be released.
Families of those who lost loved ones in the anti-discrimination student
movement will receive compensation, and the injured will receive all the help
they need to get well. The decision to free BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was
made by consensus.
In his speech, the President said, "I call upon the political parties to restore law and order situation in the country and stop looting and destructive activities." I am directing the armed forces to take strict action to protect the lives and property of the people and state assets. Urging everyone to come forward to ensure communal harmony and security of minorities and protect government property.
The President urged everyone to play an effective role in order to keep the country's economy, administration and industries running. Apart from this, those involved in killings and violence will be brought under the law through impartial investigation. At one stage of the speech, the President urged the
countrymen to work together to save the country. He said, 'Let us work together
to save the country. I humbly appeal to everyone to forget mutual hatred and
rise above revenge to play a role from their respective positions to move the
country forward.
