Katy Perry's Upcoming single is already being criticized
Katy Perry's
new song won't be released until next month, but the pop star's highly
anticipated comeback may already be facing challenges.
On Monday,
Perry revealed the cover art and title for her upcoming single, "Woman's
World," set to be released on July 11. This track will be the lead single
for Perry's sixth album with Capitol Records.
"Get ready to pop off," Perry wrote.
This
upcoming album, still unnamed, will be Perry's first since 2020's
"Smile," which received a lukewarm reception from critics and fans.
(Business Insider's music team rated the album 4.6 out of 10.)
"Smile" was marketed as a rebirth following the backlash to the
"purposeful pop" of Perry's 2017 album, "Witness."
Since then, Perry has maintained a relatively low profile for a superstar of her stature. In August 2020, she gave birth to Daisy Dove, her first child with Orlando Bloom. She began "Play," an 80-show Las Vegas engagement, the following year. In addition, Perry served as a judge on "American Idol" for seven seasons. Her final appearance aired in May.
As these
ventures came to an end, Perry started hinting at a major comeback — and the
timing has not gone unnoticed.
It's been over a decade since Perry released a widely acclaimed album (2013's "Prism"). "Daisies," her most recent chart-topping single, peaked at No. 40 on the 2020 Billboard Hot 100.
