Jeo Biden tests positive for COVID-19

Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19, but the White House reports that he is just mildly ill.
Karine Jean-Pierre, his press secretary, said that the US president has had booster shots. Twice before, he had tested positive for Covid.
Mr. Biden, 81, was seen touring supporters in Las Vegas and attending an event earlier on Wednesday. He has postponed his campaign speech scheduled for later this evening.

The illness comes at the same time when age-related pressure to retire is intensifying.

US media sources state Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Majority Leader Hakeem Jefferies, the two leading Democrats in the US Congress, met individually and privately with Mr. Biden to express their grave fears that his candidacy would negatively impact other House and Senate races.

Ms. Jean-Pierre stated that the president planned to withdraw to his house in Delaware and carry out "all of his duties fully during that time".

 
Kevin O'Connor, the president's physician, claims that Mr. Biden's upper respiratory tract symptoms, like a runny nose and cough, were the reason behind his initial Paxlovid prescription.

He felt OK at his first event of the day, but tests later revealed a positive result, according to Dr. O'Connor.

Later on Twitter, Mr. Biden expressed his gratitude to everyone for "their well wishes" and promised to "work to get the job done for the American people" as he recovered.

Reporters traveling to Las Vegas after the news said they were rushed to the airport.
The footage shows Mr. Biden walking carefully and slowly up the stairs to the plane. He was not wearing a mask.

"Good, I feel good," he was recorded saying as he climbed on Air Force One.
